Mary Mbaba, MPH is a fourth year Applied Social Psychology doctoral candidate at George Washington University under advisor Dr. Lisa Bowleg. Originally from Stone Mountain, GA, she attended the University of Georgia and earned her MPH in 2012 from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. She studies theory driven processes (e.g. bias, stereotypes) underlying the social structural determinants (e.g. the criminal justice system, neighborhoods) of marginalized peoples’ health and wellbeing (e.g. substance use, coping, depression, HIV risk). Mary is a yoga instructor and event host/coordinator (@vinylandvinyasa) in Washington, D.C.
